The Calhoun Police Department has released the incident report related to a fatal collision late Tuesday night involving a pedestrian in a wheelchair.

According to the report, the incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. on Oct. 21, 2025. A 2017 Chevrolet Malibu was traveling north in the right lane of Oothcalooga Street toward Dollar General, located at 634 Oothcalooga Street, when the collision happened.

The pedestrian, identified as Marvin Vincent Thomason, 56, of Hillhouse Drive in Calhoun, was reportedly crossing the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk in front of the store, heading toward Hillhouse Drive. Thomason allegedly failed to yield to oncoming traffic and rolled into the path of the Malibu. The driver was unable to stop in time, striking Thomason.

Thomason sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers spoke with neighbors on Hillhouse Drive, who reported that Thomason appeared to be under the influence of alcohol prior to the incident. Police also reviewed statements from Dollar General employees, who said Thomason had been in the store shortly before the accident and had a strong odor of alcohol on his person. Store video did not capture the collision itself.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
