The City of Calhoun has announced plans to reduce its property tax millage rate for 2026 ahead of two public hearings scheduled for Monday.
According to a statement released by the city, officials intend to set the 2026 millage rate at 2.25 mills, down from 3.50 mills in 2025. That represents a reduction of 1.25 mills.
“The most important point for taxpayers to understand is that the City is reducing its millage rate from 3.50 mills in 2025 to a proposed 2.25 mills in 2026,” the city said in its statement.
City officials say the proposed rate would be Calhoun’s lowest millage rate since 2017.
Residents will have multiple opportunities to comment on the proposed rate before it is finalized.
Two public hearings are scheduled for Monday, September 28, at 11:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Both will be held at the Depot on South King Street in downtown Calhoun.
A third and final public hearing is scheduled for Monday, October 12, at 6:30 p.m., also at the Depot.
The hearings will give residents an opportunity to hear more about the proposed millage rate and provide public input before the city takes final action.
