On Friday evening, September 5, 2025, a 2003 Honda Accord driven by a 41-year-old Calhoun woman veered off Newtown Creek Loop Road and crashed into Newtown Baptist Church at 897 Newtown Creek Loop Road.
Deputies and first responders quickly arrived on the scene. The driver was later located at a private residence and was turned over to medical personnel for treatment. According to a post from Newtown Baptist Church, the driver is now reported to be okay.
Preliminary findings from the Georgia State Patrol indicate that the driver left the roadway first to the south shoulder and then to the north shoulder before striking the church. Authorities determined that the driver was under the influence at the time of the crash. Warrants for her arrest will be obtained following her medical treatment.
