CHARLES TIMOTHY BATTLES is now in custody after being arrested by deputy sheriffs “a short time ago inside a private residence near the Scottsville community,” according to authorities. Deputies say the arrest was made “with the invaluable help of our private citizens,” and that BATTLES “was surprised by the arresting officers and apprehended without incident.”

Officials confirmed that BATTLES faces charges of “Attempted Murder, Arson, and Aggravated Stalking.” He “had pled guilty in Superior Court in October and was serving a sentence of probation at the time of these most recent events,” following a previous arrest by GCSO for Aggravated Stalking.

Sheriff Ralston expressed appreciation for the agencies and community members involved, thanking “his staff, the Calhoun Police, the State Fire Marshal’s Office for all their hard work, and particularly the private citizens who provided critical information to GCSO.”

“It was important that this matter be resolved quickly given the nature and severity of these crimes. Everyone involved worked around the clock to bring this defendant in, and now he will be held accountable in our courts,” said Sheriff Ralston.
