City Council Moves to Seek Bids for Legal Counsel

At its meeting on Monday, Nov. 24, 2025, the Calhoun City Council voted to open the position of City Attorney to a competitive bid process, opting to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) instead of making its traditional January appointment.

Current City Attorney George Govignon, who has served in the role for more than a decade, will be eligible to submit a proposal. However, the Council’s decision signals the possibility of bringing in new legal representation as early as late January or February 2026, when the selection is expected to be finalized.

The shift to an RFP process follows several significant lawsuits filed against the City in recent years, prompting councilmembers to consider fresh legal perspectives and a more formal evaluation process for the position.
