City of Calhoun departments are taking proactive measures ahead of this weekend’s anticipated winter weather.
Police Department: Calhoun Police Chief Tony Pyle reported that all patrol vehicles, including 4×4 units, are fueled and generators tested. Officers will travel in pairs to ensure safety, and CPD will provide transportation to city warming shelters for residents in need of a safe, warm location.
Fire Department: Calhoun Fire Chief Mike Schutz has called in additional personnel to staff three utility vehicles. These smaller, agile units will respond first to medical, service, utility, and investigation calls, allowing fire engines and ladder trucks to remain in quarters unless needed for major incidents such as structure fires. Command staff will rotate shifts at the Emergency Operations Center.
Public Works: Shane Cox confirmed his team is on standby, with salt and brine trucks prepped and chainsaw crews ready. Heavy equipment is also prepared to clear streets if necessary.
City Electric: Brett Sane said all trucks are fueled, chainsaws sharpened, and personnel will remain on-site overnight, including potentially Sunday night, to handle any urgent work.
Water and Wastewater: Erik Henson’s team has taken steps to ensure system stability and support Public Works, Electric, and other agencies. Trucks and equipment are fueled, generators at lift stations are ready, and multiple crews are prepared to stay overnight. Water treatment plants have also filled county water tanks as a contingency.
Telecommunications: Davie Crawford and his crew have all generators ready and have prepared to monitor the fiber network, ensuring customers can work remotely if power outages occur.
City officials emphasize that these measures are part of a coordinated effort to maintain public safety, essential services, and infrastructure reliability throughout the winter weather event.
