The City of Calhoun has officially proclaimed October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, recognizing the importance of education, early detection and support for those affected by breast cancer. The proclamation was presented during a recent Calhoun City Council meeting.
Representatives from AdventHealth Gordon joined community leaders and partners for the proclamation ceremony, including Emily Tarpley, operations manager of oncology services, and Mike Rabuka, director of oncology services. They were joined by James Palmer, mayor of Calhoun, and Erin Hernandez, president and CEO of the Northwest Georgia Regional Cancer Coalition.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month serves as a reminder of the importance of routine screenings, early detection and access to quality care. According to health experts, early detection through regular mammograms can help identify breast cancer at earlier stages, when treatment is often most effective.
At AdventHealth Gordon, patients have access to comprehensive breast health services, including screening and diagnostic mammography, advanced imaging and coordinated cancer care designed to support patients throughout their journey.
The proclamation highlights a shared commitment among community organizations, healthcare providers and local leaders to increase awareness, promote education and support those affected by breast cancer.
Throughout October, AdventHealth Gordon encourages community members to learn about their breast cancer risk, discuss screening recommendations with their healthcare provider and take proactive steps to prioritize their health.
