CALHOUN, GA – July 25, 2025 — Comcast is bringing more than just faster internet to Gordon County — it’s delivering opportunity. On Tuesday, July 29, Comcast will mark the completion of its multi-million dollar Internet and services expansion in the area with a community celebration featuring a ribbon cutting, a surprise laptop giveaway, and a family-friendly block party.
In partnership with The Boys & Girls Club of North Georgia, Comcast will give away 100 laptops to students of the Boys & Girls Club, as part of its Project UP initiative — a company-wide effort to advance digital equity and skills development across the country. The giveaway is designed to help boost digital literacy and close the homework gap for youth who need it most.
The celebration kicks off at 11:30 a.m. with a networking hour, followed by a noon ribbon cutting ceremony at the Boys & Girls Club facility located at 1001 S Wall Street in Calhoun. Local officials, community leaders, and Comcast executives will share remarks highlighting the significance of this broadband infrastructure investment.
Following the ceremony, students of the Boys & Girls Club will receive their laptops in a surprise presentation at 12:30 p.m., and the celebration will continue outside with a block party from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. The event will feature live music from Cut Loose Entertainment, a 360 photo booth, face painting, food from Los Jefes taco truck, and information tables from Internet Essentials and Xfinity representatives. Raffles, giveaways, and interactive activities will be available for all ages.
In addition, Comcast will officially announce that the Boys & Girls Club of North Georgia will become a Lift Zone, offering free high-speed Wi-Fi access to help students and families stay connected and thrive in a digital world.
“We’re proud to partner with organizations like the Boys & Girls Club to empower students with the tools they need to succeed,” said Donovin Brown, Comcast’s Regional Vice President of Construction. “This expansion represents more than improved connectivity — it’s about investing in the future of Gordon County.”
Comcast’s support for the Boys & Girls Club of North Georgia is part of a broader, ongoing commitment. In 2024, the company provided $37,500 in funding to support the Club’s youth programming and digital access efforts.
