The Calhoun City Schools (CCS) system and the greater Calhoun community are mourning the loss of Eddie Reeves, a dedicated public servant and long-standing leader in local education.

Reeves most recently served as Chair of the Calhoun City Schools Board of Education, a position he previously held from 2014 to 2021. His leadership and commitment to the success of students, teachers, and families left a lasting mark on the district.

“Calhoun City Schools mourns the loss of our friend and Board Chair Eddie Reeves,” the district shared in a statement on social media. “His legacy of service, leadership, and compassion will remain a guiding light for our schools.”

In addition to his contributions to education, Reeves was a well-known civic leader across Gordon County. He was the Human Resource and Benefits Practice Leader at Starr-Mathews Agency and held leadership roles with several community organizations. He served as Chairman of the Gordon County Chamber of Commerce, President of United Way of Calhoun/Gordon County, and Chairman of the Junior Achievement of Northwest Georgia Board of Directors.

A graduate of Leadership Calhoun/Gordon County and Leadership Georgia, Reeves was admired for his dedication to community-focused initiatives and youth development.

According to Calhoun City Schools, arrangements are being handled by Thomas Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 2, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home in Calhoun.

A public tribute to Reeves will take place during the Calhoun High School football game on Friday, October 3, at Phil Reeve Stadium, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Guests are encouraged to arrive early.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 4 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Calhoun.
