A convenience store operator was taken into custody Tuesday night following a Gordon County Board of Commissioners meeting involving alleged alcohol sales violations at a Calhoun-area business.
Noorjahan S. Porbunderwalla, 60, of Lawrenceville, was arrested after the Tuesday, Aug. 18 meeting in connection with alleged violations involving SV 786, LLC, doing business as BP Food Mart at 110 Shope Lake Road.
The matter came before commissioners as part of a new application for a license allowing off-premises beer and wine sales at the store.
According to information presented to the commission, the business missed its alcohol license renewal deadline in 2025. As a result, the previous license expired on Dec. 31, 2025, meaning alcohol sales could not legally continue at the location until a new license was approved.
The new application was recommended for denial after allegations that the store continued selling alcohol without a valid license.
The store’s location also raised concerns under Gordon County’s alcohol ordinance. The business is approximately 601 feet diagonally from the Sonoraville Recreation Department. County regulations prohibit alcohol sales by establishments located within 1,000 feet of a school, house of worship or public park.
Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday night to deny the new alcohol license application.
Following the meeting, law enforcement officers took Porbunderwalla into custody on a state arrest warrant. She was charged with Licensing of Persons Engaged in Tobacco and Vape Business and Unlawful Sale of Alcohol Beverage. Both charges are misdemeanors.
According to the Georgia Secretary of State’s website, Porbunderwalla is the registered agent for SV 786, LLC.
Porbunderwalla remained in the Gordon County Jail as of press time.
It remains unclear whether additional arrests or charges could result from the investigation into alcohol sales at the store.
