The Calhoun City Council voted 3-1 Monday night, Jan. 26, 2026, to appoint a new attorney to represent the city.

Councilman Ed Moyer made the motion to appoint Brandon Bowen of the law firm Jenkins, Bowen and Walker, based in Cartersville. Councilmen Bruce Potts and Al Edwards voted in favor of the appointment. Councilwoman Jackie Palazzolo cast the lone dissenting vote, citing concerns regarding cost and accessibility.

The appointment follows a decision by the Council in late November 2025 to place the City Attorney position out for bid through a Request for Proposal (RFP), rather than reappoint longtime City Attorney George Govignon in January, as has been the city’s customary practice.
