A Calhoun man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison, with the first 10 years to be served in confinement, in connection with a 2023 hit-and-run crash that killed one person and injured several others in Fairmount.
Superior Court Judge Rosemary Green handed down the sentence Thursday, October 30, 2025, to Ronald Grady Dickson, following a non-negotiated plea. Dickson will receive roughly two months of jail credit for time served between September 17 and November 30, 2023.
Dickson, now 75, was indicted in January on multiple charges, including Homicide by Vehicle in the First Degree (DUI, Reckless Driving, and Hit & Run); 10 counts of Serious Injury by Vehicle (DUI, Reckless Driving, and Hit & Run); DUI Per Se; DUI Less Safe; Reckless Driving; and five counts of Hit & Run.
The charges stem from a September 17, 2023 crash on Highway 61 (U.S. 411) in Fairmount. According to the Georgia State Patrol, Dickson was driving a Ford F-150 northbound at a high rate of speed when he struck three motorcycles traveling together. One of the motorcycles became lodged in the front of the truck, but Dickson continued driving for about six miles before being stopped by Fairmount Police.
Three riders were airlifted to trauma centers, two were taken by ambulance, and one motorcyclist died at the scene.
