A Sunday afternoon crash on Highway 411 in Gordon County has resulted in a fatality, according to Gordon County Coroner Nick Blalock.

The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) reports that the collision occurred around 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2025, near Covington Bridge Road. Preliminary findings indicate that the rider of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling north on GA 61 (U.S. 411) and failed to maintain his lane while negotiating a right-hand curve. The motorcycle crossed the double-yellow centerline and collided head-on with a tractor-trailer.

Following the impact, the motorcycle became engulfed in flames. The rider sustained fatal injuries at the scene. Officers from the Department of Public Safety’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division also responded to conduct an inspection of the tractor-trailer involved. The highway remained closed for approximately two hours during the investigation and cleanup.

The Gordon County Coroner’s Office has identified the victim as Scotty Cantrell, 56, of Fairmount. Coroner Blalock stated that his office will continue to support Mr. Cantrell’s family during this difficult time.
