Calhoun’s 2nd annual Feeding the Needy Thanksgiving event will take place on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Christian Activities Center of Calhoun First United Methodist Church, 205 East Line Street. This free event welcomes not only those in financial need but anyone seeking fellowship and friendship during the holiday season.

Founded by Dr. Walter Harris, the event focuses on raising awareness of local poverty and providing care and companionship to the elderly and those who may be alone during the holidays.

The Thanksgiving menu includes turkey and dressing, ham, green beans, corn, macaroni and cheese, yams, collard greens, cranberry sauce, rolls, and drinks. Meals will be available for both dine-in and carry-out.

Volunteers are needed to help make the event a success. Those interested can call Dr. Walter Harris at 706-263-4584. Volunteer shifts on Thanksgiving Day are 8–11 a.m., 11 a.m.–2 p.m., and 2 p.m. until the event concludes. Assistance is also needed Wednesday, Nov. 26, for setup and food preparation.

The event’s Leadership Committee includes Calhoun Police Chief Tony Pyle, Ken Padgett, Jeremy Noffsingner, Jennifer Trisler, Kenneth Abernathy, and Tracey Smith.
