The 2nd annual Feeding the Needy Calhoun, a free Thanksgiving Day meal open to anyone seeking fellowship, friendship, or assistance during the holidays, will take place Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Calhoun First United Methodist Church’s Christian Activities Center, located at 205 East Line Street.

Founded by Dr. Walter Harris, the event’s mission is to bring awareness to local poverty while providing care and companionship to the elderly and those who may be spending the holiday alone.

To make the event possible, organizers are seeking both financial contributions and volunteers.
The day’s menu will feature a full Thanksgiving feast, including turkey and dressing, ham, green beans, corn, macaroni and cheese, yams, collard greens, cranberry sauce, rolls, and drinks. Meals will be available for both dine-in and carry-out.

Volunteers are needed for three time slots on Thanksgiving Day—8–11 a.m., 11 a.m.–2 p.m., and 2 p.m. until closing—as well as for setup and prep work on Wednesday, Nov. 26.
Those interested in volunteering can contact Dr. Walter Harris at 706-263-4584.

Financial donations can be made by check payable to “Walter Harris” with “Feeding the Needy Calhoun” noted in the memo line. Donations may be mailed to:
Feeding the Needy, 120 Yarbrough Street, Calhoun, GA 30701.

This year’s Leadership Committee includes Calhoun Police Chief Tony Pyle, Ken Padgett, Jeremy Noffsingner, Jennifer Trisler, Kenneth Abernathy, and Tracey Smith.
