GORDON COUNTY, Ga. — The 2025 First Responders Food Drive Competition wrapped up on July 31 with an impressive show of generosity, collecting 42,642 items to help stock the VAC Food Pantry.
From July 1–31, local first responder agencies went head-to-head in a friendly contest to see who could gather the most canned goods, bottled water, and non-perishable food. The competition drew strong participation from both the agencies and the community, all rallying to fight hunger in Gordon County.
When the final tally was counted, the Calhoun City Police Department claimed first place. The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office secured second, and Gordon County 911 earned third place honors.
Organizers say the event’s success reflects the “Heart of a Caring Community,” with every donation helping to ensure families across the county have the food they need.
“This was more than a competition—it was a testament to the compassion and dedication of our first responders and community members,” said event coordinators. “Because of your generosity, the shelves of the VAC Food Pantry are full and ready to serve those in need.”
The 2025 competition not only set a record for items collected but also strengthened bonds between first responders and the community they serve.
