Northwest Georgia is preparing for heavy rain and potentially damaging winds this weekend as Hurricane Isaias impacts the region.

A Flood Watch will be in effect beginning at 2 o’clock Saturday morning and continuing through 8 o’clock Sunday morning.

Forecasters say widespread rainfall totals of one to three inches are expected, with localized amounts reaching as high as five inches.

Repeated rounds of heavy rain could produce flash flooding along creeks and streams and in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.

Dade, Walker, Catoosa, Chattooga, Gordon, Floyd, Murray and Whitfield counties are among those included in the Flood Watch.

A High Wind Watch will also be in effect from 8 o’clock Saturday morning through 8 o’clock Sunday morning.

East winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour are possible, with gusts reaching 50 miles per hour.

Those winds could bring down trees and power lines, leading to widespread power outages. Travel could also become difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.

Residents should secure outdoor items, be prepared for possible power outages and closely monitor weather conditions throughout the weekend.
