Former Gordon County Commissioner Becky Hood and her husband, Scott Hood, a local businessman, have just entered GUILTY pleas on reduced child abuse charges after accusations from two of their children were leveled against the couple more than five years ago.
Scott Hood entered a GUILTY plea on a charge of SEXUAL BATTERY OF A CHILD UNDER THE AGE OF 16. His original charge was one count of child molestation. Becky Hood entered a GUILTY plea on a charge of misdemeanor RECKLESS CONDUCT. She was originally charged with one count of Cruelty to Children-1st degree.
Presiding Judge Ralph Van Pelt Jr., who was assigned to the case from another judicial circuit due to Becky Hood’s position as an elected official at the time of the events they pled guilty to, sentenced Scott Hood to 5 YEARS PROBATION, REGISTRATION AS A SEX OFFENDER although the judge did allow Hood the opportunities to attend his teenage child’s school events with another adult as a chaperone. Becky Hood was sentenced to ONE YEAR PROBATION, $1,000 FINE AND PROOF OF COMPLETING PARENTING AND ANGER MANAGEMENT CLASSES.
In late March of 2025, Becky Hood was indicted on a count of 1st degree Cruelty to Children. According to that indictment, on or about Jan. 21, 2021, Becky Hood maliciously caused a minor child in the home, under the age of 18, cruel and excessive physical and mental pain by pouring coffee on the child, grabbing the child by the hair, pulling the child to the ground by her hair causing the child’s head to strike the ground, kicking the child, and calling the child a bitch.
At the time of Becky Hood’s indictment, Scott Hood was indicted on a count of Child Molestation. According to the indictment, on or around Nov. 29, 2013, Scott Hood committed an immoral and indecent act on a minor child in the home, under the age of 16, with the intent to arouse and satisfy the sexual desires of the accused by touching the child’s vagina with his hand.
The plea deals come after six subpoenas were filed and the judge granted two of the state’s motions via two orders to present other acts of evidence in Gordon County Superior Court over the last couple of weeks.
