Calhoun City Schools officials confirmed that a brief lockdown at Calhoun Middle School and Calhoun High School was lifted Thursday after local law enforcement identified and apprehended an unauthorized individual on campus.

According to school officials, a former student was found on the Calhoun High School campus without permission on Jan. 29. A teacher reported the suspicious individual to school administration, prompting the school to initiate a lockdown in accordance with standard safety protocols.

Local law enforcement responded immediately, conducting a full sweep of both the middle and high school campuses while school officials simultaneously reviewed surveillance footage to help identify the individual. Authorities later confirmed the person had left campus, and normal school operations resumed shortly afterward.

Police and school officials worked together to identify, locate and apprehend the former student at their residence.

Calhoun City Schools expressed appreciation to Chief Pyle, school resource officers and the Calhoun Police Department for their swift and thorough response.

“This week has been challenging, with false reports and inaccurate information circulating in the community, causing undue stress for our students and staff,” school officials stated. “We appreciate the community’s continued support and understanding.”

No injuries were reported, and officials said safety remains their top priority.
