Gordon County Fire & Rescue (GCF&R) responded to two additional residential fires this week, bringing the total number of house fires since Thanksgiving week to five.

Just after midnight on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025, firefighters were dispatched to a residential fire at 1020 Knight Road in Ranger. Upon arrival, crews found the structure approximately 80 percent involved with flames. Incident command was established, and firefighters made entry to begin fire suppression.

According to GCF&R, suppression efforts were complicated by several additions to the original structure, creating numerous hazards. Fire extension beneath the floor and throughout interior walls delayed extinguishment. The fire was brought under control just before 2 a.m., after which crews conducted extensive overhaul operations. Units cleared the scene and returned to service shortly after 5 a.m. The home was deemed a total loss.

A second structure fire was reported just after midnight on Monday, Dec. 15, at 1948 Old Dalton Road NW in Calhoun. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire conditions in the attic. No occupants were inside the residence at the time of the fire.

Crews quickly initiated fire attack and extinguishment before moving into salvage and overhaul operations. North Georgia EMC responded to the scene to disconnect electrical service, and the American Red Cross was notified to assist with relocation needs for the displaced occupants. Damage from the fire is estimated at $160,000.
