Gordon County Fire & Rescue crews were met with a surge of emergency calls over Thanksgiving week, responding to two serious residential fires that resulted in major property loss and one significant injury.
According to officials, the first fire occurred at a home on Linda Lane, where crews arrived to find the structure heavily involved. The blaze caused catastrophic damage, leaving the home a total loss. One individual sustained severe burn injuries and was transported for medical treatment. Fire investigators continue to review the incident to determine the cause.
Later in the week, firefighters were dispatched to a second residential fire in the Walnut Hills subdivision. That blaze caused extensive damage estimated in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Crews worked quickly to contain the fire and prevent further spread within the neighborhood.
Gordon County Fire & Rescue urges residents to remain vigilant during the winter season, when home fire risks increase due to heating equipment, holiday cooking, and electrical hazards. Officials remind the public to check smoke alarms, avoid leaving cooking unattended, and follow recommended safety guidelines to help prevent similar incidents.
Both cases remain under investigation.
