The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) says crews across Northwest Georgia worked ahead of incoming winter weather to treat more than 5,600 miles of state roadways.
According to GDOT, road treatment operations began at 7 p.m. Friday. Within 24 hours, all state routes across the 17 counties in Northwest Georgia had been treated with brine in preparation for icy conditions.
By Saturday, Jan. 24, GDOT reported the following totals for the region:
-
Miles of roads treated: 5,673
-
Brine used: 263,935 gallons
-
Salt used: 31 tons
GDOT officials are urging motorists to stay off the roads during the winter weather event and afterward until conditions are deemed safe for travel. Even treated roads can remain hazardous during freezing temperatures, especially on bridges, overpasses and elevated surfaces.
Road condition updates and additional information will be posted on the GDOT Northwest Georgia Facebook page and X (formerly Twitter) account.
