Calhoun’s historic GEM Theatre is set to celebrate a major milestone this weekend — the 14th anniversary of its grand re-opening. To honor the occasion, Friends of Calhoun’s GEM Theatre is hosting a lively block party packed with entertainment, food, and community spirit.

The celebration kicks off at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, with activities spread across downtown. Classic car enthusiasts can enjoy a car show in the Library parking lot, while local food trucks will be stationed in the Community Development Department parking lot, serving up crowd favorites throughout the evening.

Visitors will also have the chance to step inside the GEM Theatre for an open house, offering a closer look at the beautifully restored venue that has become a cornerstone of Calhoun’s arts and entertainment scene.

The festivities will wrap up on the big screen at 7:00 p.m. with a special showing of Grease Sing-Along. Guests are encouraged to sing their hearts out to the iconic soundtrack of the beloved musical film.

Organizers say the event is not only a celebration of the GEM’s re-opening anniversary but also a way to thank the community for its continued support in preserving and enjoying the historic landmark.
