Gordon County voters made their voices known yesterday as they voted in both statewide and local elections. Voters across Georgia will have another chance to go to the polls with multiple races headed into runoffs. The runoff elections will be held across Georgia on June 16th.

In Georgia US House District 11 Republicans John Cowan and Rob Adkerson could not secure the bid and will advance to a runoff election, while Democrat Chris Harden won outright.

The race for governor for the Republican party will also be sent to a runoff election as neither Rick Jackson nor Burt Jones was able to secure the majority needed to win. Burt Jones was only able to get 38 percent of the votes, while Rick Jackson only garnered 33 percent. The winner of the Republican governor runoff will be facing off against Keisha Lance Bottoms in the general election, who won the Democratic bid by a landslide.

In the Lt. Governor’s race, John Kennedy won the Republican nomination outright. On the Democratic side, John McLauren and Nabilah Parkes advanced to a runoff election.

Both the Republicans and Democrats will be heading into a runoff election for the Georgia Secretary of State. For the GOP, Tim Fleming and Vernon Jones, and for the Democrats, it will be Penny Reynolds and Dana Barrett.

The U.S Senate Republican Primary will also be headed for a runoff election, seeing as Derek Dooley and his opponent Mike Collins could not secure the bid.

Now a look more locally in the race for the Georgia State Senate seat, the incumbent Republican Chuck Payne won with 62 percent.
