The Labor Day holiday brought a sharp increase in traffic activity across Georgia, and with it, a significant number of incidents on the state’s roadways. This week, the Georgia Department of Public Safety (DPS) released its finalized activity report, detailing traffic enforcement efforts and incident statistics spanning the long weekend.

Throughout the holiday period, Georgia State Patrol intensified patrols on highways and interstates in an effort to reduce accidents and ensure public safety. As expected with any major travel holiday, the surge in vehicles on the road corresponded with a rise in collisions, injuries, and traffic violations.

According to DPS data, the state recorded 15 traffic-related fatalities over the weekend. In total, there were 284 reported crashes, resulting in 151 injuries. Authorities noted that 36 of those crash reports involved drivers under the influence, while 13 included commercial motor vehicles.

Traffic enforcement activity was also significant, with 425 DUI citations issued and 702 drivers cited for distracted driving. Seatbelt violations totaled 1,094.

Public safety officials acknowledged the efforts of drivers who made responsible decisions during the holiday and emphasized the importance of continued vigilance behind the wheel.
