The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) has announced that squirrel hunting season will officially open on August 15, giving hunters across the state the chance to return to the woods in pursuit of this early season favorite.
As one of Georgia’s longest-running small game seasons, squirrel hunting remains a cherished tradition and serves as a great way to introduce new hunters to the sport. Officials say it also provides an ideal opportunity to scout public lands for the fall and winter hunting seasons while enjoying the scenic beauty of Georgia’s diverse forests.
“Squirrel hunting is an excellent gateway for beginners,” said a WRD spokesperson. “It’s affordable, accessible, and a great way to spend time outdoors with family and friends.”
Hunters are reminded to review Georgia’s hunting regulations before heading out and to ensure they have the appropriate licenses and permissions.
