Gordon Central High School announced today that Head Football Coach Marcus Gowan has resigned to accept a position closer to his family in South Georgia. Coach Gowan shared the news with the team earlier this morning, saying, “I will always value my time at Gordon Central and the relationships built here. I’m proud of the progress you have made on and off the field, and I’m confident the program will continue moving in a positive direction.”
The school expressed gratitude for Coach Gowan’s dedication and leadership, noting the role he played in guiding the team through a successful season and strengthening the foundation of the program. Gordon Central wishes him the very best in the next chapter of his career.
Over recent seasons, the football program has steadily built momentum, culminating this year in its first winning season in years. The success reflects the hard work of the players and the consistent guidance of the entire coaching staff.
“As a school, we are proud of the resilience and determination shown by our athletes and coaches,” said Dr. Amy Parker, Principal of Gordon Central High School. “While we wish Coach Gowan well as he moves back home, our focus remains on supporting the incredible coaching staff and players who worked tirelessly to make last season a success. We are confident this program will continue to thrive under new leadership.”
Gordon Central High School remains committed to sustaining its momentum and pursuing excellence as preparations begin for the next chapter in Gordon Central football. The search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
