Gordon Central High School is excited to announce the appointment of Coach Jonathan Sanderson as the new head coach of the Lady Warriors basketball team. His hiring comes as Coach Maci Mills steps down from the position following eight impactful years of leadership.

In her farewell statement, Coach Mills reflected on her time with the program:
“After much thought and prayer, I’ve made the decision to step down from coaching basketball at Gordon Central. This role has meant the world to me. Over the last 8 years, I’ve had the privilege of coaching some of the most incredible young women… Thank you to every player who let me be a part of their story. I’ll always be cheering for you—not just in the game, but in life.”

Though she is leaving the sidelines, Coach Mills will continue to be a vital part of the Warrior community through her work in the classroom and involvement in student activities.

Principal Dr. Amy Parker expressed deep appreciation for Coach Mills’ years of service and enthusiasm for the future of the program:
“First, I would like to thank Coach Maci Mills for her years of dedication and leadership as coach of our girls’ basketball team. While she steps away from coaching, I know she will continue to positively impact our students. I am also thrilled to welcome Coach Jonathan Sanderson into his new role. His experience, energy, and commitment to the holistic development of our athletes make him a fantastic choice to lead the Lady Warriors.”

Coach Sanderson brings more than 13 years of coaching experience to the role, including the last four years as assistant coach for the boys’ basketball team. His tenure helped propel the team to one of its most successful stretches since 2006, including a state playoff appearance earlier this year.

Well-known for his dedication to player development, Coach Sanderson emphasizes building not only athletic skill but also confidence, leadership, and character. A proud resident of Calhoun, he lives with his fiancée Leah and their children—Bryce, Karsen, Gracie, and Daylen—who are all active members of the Warrior Nation. He also serves in the Special Education Department at Gordon Central and is continuing his education in that field.

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Coach Sanderson shared his excitement:
“I am looking forward to this next chapter and can’t wait to get to work with the Lady Warriors!”

Students interested in joining the team are invited to attend an open gym session on Wednesday, June 26, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Whether you’re an experienced athlete or new to the sport, this is a great opportunity to get involved and see what Lady Warriors basketball is all about.
