The Gordon County Board of Commissioners took time during its most recent meeting to recognize the critical role of local emergency dispatchers, honoring Gordon County 911 personnel ahead of National Telecommunicators Week.
During Tuesday night’s meeting, Board Chair Bud Owens presented a formal proclamation declaring April 12–18 as Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in Gordon County.
Telecommunicators serve as the first point of contact in emergencies, answering 911 calls and dispatching first responders—including law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel—to incidents ranging from traffic accidents to fires and medical emergencies.
Officials emphasized that these professionals are truly the frontline of emergency response, providing calm, coordinated assistance during some of the most critical moments in the community.
Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is observed annually across the country as a time to recognize and thank dispatchers for their dedication, professionalism, and essential service to public safety.
Local leaders encouraged residents to take a moment during the week to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of Gordon County’s 911 team, whose efforts help ensure timely and effective emergency response every day.
