A Gordon County Grand Jury has indicted Dillon Wayne Long on multiple charges connected to a January 2024 aggravated assault case that also involved the discovery of an explosive device.

Long faces charges of Unlawful Possession of a Destructive Device, Unlawful Handling of Explosive Devices, Aggravated Assault, and Reckless Conduct (Family Violence).

The case began on January 11, 2024, when sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a residence on Red Bud Road. The victim told deputies she had been assaulted by her partner, identified as Long. Deputies were unable to locate Long at the time, and warrants were issued for his arrest.

Six days later, on January 17, deputies were called to Pleasant Hill Road after reports of an explosive device. The Floyd County Bomb Unit was brought in to safely disable the device, which investigators later linked to Long. Detectives launched an intensive search, working with metro Atlanta authorities to track his movements.

On January 18, deputies conducted a coordinated traffic stop on U.S. Highway 41 South, taking Long into custody without incident. He was booked into the Gordon County Jail.

At the time of his arrest, Long was already on probation for a 2019 burglary conviction.
