Gordon County officials gathered Thursday to honor the life and service of longtime Public Works Director Steve Parris by dedicating the Gordon County Public Works building in his memory.
County administration, elected officials and members of the Gordon County Public Works Department attended the Aug. 20 ceremony, where a plaque honoring Parris was unveiled at the building.
The dedication was held on what would have been Parris’ 62nd birthday.
Parris died in June 2025 at the age of 60 following a battle with cancer.
His career with Gordon County spanned 42 years. Parris served in several capacities during his decades of service before becoming Public Works director in 2017, a position he held until his death.
The dedication recognizes Parris’ decades of service and the lasting impact he made on Gordon County, the Public Works Department and the employees who worked alongside him.
The newly unveiled plaque will serve as a permanent tribute to Parris and his more than four decades of dedication to Gordon County.
