Gordon County, GA – May 23, 2025 – Following public inquiries about the cleanup of storm debris from the recent severe weather, Gordon County officials have provided an update on their response efforts.

Keith King, Assistant Administrator of Gordon County, addressed the concerns on behalf of the county’s Public Works Department. In his response, King emphasized that while it is not typical for the county to provide storm debris removal, extraordinary situations—such as the recent storm—prompt the government to take action in assisting with debris removal from public right-of-ways.

On Thursday, May 23, 2025, the National Weather Service confirmed that Gordon County was struck by two EF0 tornadoes. The storms left a trail of damage in certain areas, prompting the county’s Public Works Department to assess the affected roadways within the tornado’s path.

“Public Works mentioned that you are inquiring about storm debris removal. While it is not the standard policy of Gordon County Government to collect storm debris, we understand that extraordinary circumstances require a compassionate and proactive response,” King said.

The county has stated that Public Works crews are currently evaluating the specific areas that were impacted. A follow-up statement is scheduled for release on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, which will detail the roads that will be prioritized for storm debris pickup services.

“We appreciate your patience as we work to ensure a safe and timely recovery for all impacted areas,” King added, stressing the importance of community cooperation during the recovery process.

Local media outlets Georgia 101.7 and DiscoverGordonCounty.com have committed to sharing the Tuesday update, ensuring residents are kept informed on the latest developments.

County officials continue to encourage residents to stay safe and await further instructions on storm debris removal services.
