The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) is warning residents about an active phone scam in which callers impersonate law enforcement officers and falsely claim recipients have outstanding warrants.

According to GCSO, several citizens have reported receiving calls from individuals who threaten arrest unless immediate payment is made over the phone. The scammers often pressure victims into providing personal information or sending money for supposed bail or bond.

The Sheriff’s Office stresses the following:

  • No law enforcement agency serves warrants by telephone.

  • No law enforcement agency collects bail, bond, or any type of payment over the phone.

Officials urge residents to hang up immediately if they receive these types of calls. Anyone who suspects they were targeted or provided information to scammers is encouraged to contact GCSO.

“We want citizens to know that these calls are fraudulent,” the Sheriff’s Office emphasized. “If you receive a call like this — just hang up.”

The public is reminded to never give out personal or financial information to unknown callers and to verify any claims directly with local law enforcement using official numbers.
