The Gordon County Board of Commissioners has announced a series of public hearings regarding a proposed property tax increase for 2025.

Commissioners have tentatively adopted a millage rate of 9.042 mills, representing a 9.89% increase over the current rate of 8.228 mills. If approved, the change would amount to an additional .814 mills.

For property owners, the proposed increase translates to an estimated $79.77 in additional taxes on a home valued at $250,000. Non-homestead properties with a fair market value of $225,000 would see an increase of about $73.26.

County officials noted that homeowners who qualify for the Homestead Exemption are not expected to see an increase in the county government portion of their property taxes.

Public hearings on the proposed increase will take place at the Judicial Building Assembly Room, 101 South Piedmont Street, Calhoun, on the following dates and times:

  • Tuesday, September 2, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

  • Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.

All Gordon County residents are encouraged to attend and share their feedback.
