The Georgia State Patrol has released preliminary findings from a wrong-way incident on Interstate 75 in Gordon County that led to multiple crashes Wednesday night.

According to GSP, troopers responded around the evening hours of March 4 to a multi-vehicle crash with injuries on I-75 northbound near mile marker 311.

Investigators determined that a Mitsubishi Mirage failed to maintain its lane of travel, left the roadway on the left side, and struck a guardrail. The vehicle then re-entered the interstate, triggering a chain reaction crash involving several other vehicles.

The crashes left multiple vehicles disabled, forcing authorities to shut down the interstate for approximately one hour while emergency personnel worked the scene.

Several people were injured in the incident, though officials say the injuries were minor. Those hurt were transported to a local Gordon County hospital for treatment.
