With deer season just a month away, Georgia hunters are being encouraged to help provide meals for families in need through the Georgia Wildlife Federation’s Hunters for the Hungry program.
The program allows hunters to donate harvested deer to participating processors, where the venison is prepared and distributed through local food banks. Organizers say the effort provides communities with a high-protein, low-fat source of food while also supporting responsible wildlife management.
Those interested in helping can donate a deer to a participating processor, make a financial contribution or become a program sponsor. According to the Georgia Wildlife Federation, a $15 donation can cover the cost of processing enough venison to provide approximately 24 meals.
The public can also support the program by spreading the word and helping identify potential processors in underserved areas.

Through Hunters for the Hungry, Georgia sportsmen can turn a successful day in the woods into meals for neighbors facing food insecurity.
