CALHOUN, GA – Gordon County Schools has announced the appointment of Carmen Massengill as the new principal of Gordon Central High School, following approval at the April 13 Board of Education meeting.
Massengill currently serves as assistant principal at Gordon Central, a role she has held for the past six years. During that time, she has worked closely with students, teachers, and families while leading efforts in curriculum development, assessment, and instructional improvement. She has also coordinated state and national testing and supported student discipline and overall school operations.
With more than 27 years in education—25 of those within Gordon County Schools—Massengill brings a wealth of experience to her new position. Her career includes time at Sonoraville Middle School and Sonoraville High School, where she served as an instructional specialist, classroom teacher, and coach for more than half of her career.
Throughout her tenure, Massengill has been recognized for her commitment to servant leadership, student-centered decision-making, and building positive, supportive school environments.
She holds a Leadership Endorsement from University of West Georgia and advanced degrees in instruction, curriculum, and education from the University of West Georgia, Piedmont College, and University of North Georgia.
Massengill, a 1995 graduate of Gordon Central High School, said the opportunity to lead her alma mater is especially meaningful.
“I am a proud 1995 graduate of Gordon Central High School and am deeply honored to serve this school and community as principal,” Massengill said. “Gordon Central is my home, and I am committed to supporting our students and staff while continuing the tradition of excellence that defines this school.”
Massengill will succeed Dr. Amy Parker, who is retiring after a career dedicated entirely to Gordon County Schools. District leaders expressed their appreciation for Parker’s years of service and lasting impact on the Gordon Central community.
With deep roots in the district and decades of experience, Massengill is expected to provide strong, steady leadership as Gordon Central High School continues its focus on student achievement and excellence.
