In today’s news, Fairmount elections were held: Jerry Mauldin was elected mayor. Mike Young won the election for City Council Post One.
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners recessed the zoning change near I-75 in Resaca; a death in the family of one of the stakeholders led the board to hear from those wishing to speak; the hearing will continue at the next meeting. The board approved the purchase of two trucks for EMA; those are coming from Prater Ford. The roll-off containers that Keep Calhoun Gordon County Beautiful will use were also approved – the bid was about ten thousand dollars lower than expected. In the pre-meeting work session, the commissioners heard from E-911. They need – according to the director – more communicators (Dispatchers) and a bigger facility. The vans for the Cooperative Extension Service are here – they will go into service soon, and Administrator Jim Ledbeter said they can be shared, when not in use by the extension office, with other county agencies.
