The National Weather Service (NWS) in Peachtree City/Atlanta will host a series of free virtual Storm (Severe Weather) Spotter Training classes in the coming weeks, offering residents an opportunity to learn how to identify and report severe weather safely and effectively.
The basic-level classes are open to the public and designed for individuals, community groups, teams, and organizations interested in becoming trained weather spotters. There is no cost to participate, but advance registration is required.
To accommodate different schedules, two of the three sessions will be held in the early afternoon from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., with one evening option available from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of severe weather identification, reporting procedures, and the important role trained spotters play in supporting the National Weather Service during hazardous weather events.
NWS Atlanta officials also announced plans to offer an advanced-level spotter training course toward the end of March. Completion of one of the basic-level classes is strongly recommended prior to attending the advanced session. Additional details and registration information for the advanced course will be released in the coming weeks.
Community members are encouraged to share the training information with others who may be interested in participating.
