One person has been arrested following a hit-and-run crash Friday night on Hwy. 41 North near David Lake Road, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
GSP reports that around 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, a trooper was dispatched to a crash on SR-3/Hwy. 41 at David Lake Road. A 2002 Acura TL was traveling northbound in the continuous turn lane, while a 2013 Kia Forte was traveling southbound in the left lane.
Investigators say the driver of the Acura failed to maintain his lane, crossed into the southbound lanes of SR-3, and struck the Kia head-on.
After the crash, the driver of the Acura attempted to flee the scene by placing the vehicle in reverse and striking a tree. The driver then put the vehicle in drive and struck a nearby home before fleeing the scene on foot.
Deputies with the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office later received information regarding the driver’s whereabouts and were able to locate and take him into custody. The driver of the Kia was transported to Hamilton Medical Center for treatment.
The driver of the Acura was identified as Maurice McFarlin, 46, of Tallapoosa, Georgia. He was charged with driving on a suspended license, driving under the influence, failure to maintain lane, no seatbelt, possession of an open container, failure to report an accident, and hit-and-run/failure to render aid. McFarlin also had an active outstanding warrant.
McFarlin remains in the Gordon County Jail at the time of publication.
