Today marks the beginning of Operation Southern Slow Down 2025, a week-long regional campaign aimed at curbing speeding and aggressive driving across the Southeastern United States. From July 14 through July 20, law enforcement agencies in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, South Carolina, and Tennessee will join forces in a coordinated crackdown on speeding-related violations.
The annual campaign is designed to reduce crashes and save lives by increasing visibility of law enforcement and raising public awareness about the dangers of excessive speed. Motorists can expect to see more patrols on interstates and major highways, as officers focus on identifying and stopping drivers engaging in risky behaviors such as speeding, tailgating, and reckless lane changes.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, speeding continues to be a leading factor in traffic fatalities. Operation Southern Slow Down serves as both an enforcement effort and a reminder that slowing down can be the difference between life and death.
Drivers are encouraged to obey posted speed limits, allow extra travel time, and stay alert throughout the week as heightened enforcement gets underway.
