The 2nd annual Feeding the Needy Calhoun Thanksgiving event drew an overwhelming response on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025, as more than 1,000 local residents came together for a free holiday meal and fellowship at Calhoun First United Methodist Church.
The event, held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. inside the church’s Christian Activities Center, welcomed not only those facing financial hardship but anyone seeking companionship during the holiday season. Founded by Dr. Walter Harris, the initiative aims to bring awareness to impoverished areas in the community while also offering care and connection for the elderly and those experiencing loneliness.
Guests were served a full traditional Thanksgiving spread, including turkey and dressing, ham, green beans, corn, mac & cheese, yams, collard greens, cranberry sauce, rolls and drinks. Both dine-in and carry-out options were available, helping accommodate the large turnout.
The Leadership Committee overseeing this year’s event included Calhoun Police Chief Tony Pyle, Ken Padgett, Jeremy Noffsinger, Jennifer Trisler, Kenneth Abernathy and Tracey Smith. Volunteers worked throughout the day to ensure every attendee enjoyed a warm meal and a welcoming atmosphere.
