A Red Flag Warning will be in effect for Gordon County and other parts of Georgia today from noon until 7 p.m., as weather conditions create a heightened risk for wildfires.
According to forecasters, elevated winds with gusts reaching up to 25 miles per hour, combined with low relative humidity, are expected to produce extremely dangerous fire weather conditions. These factors can cause fires to start easily and spread rapidly.
Officials strongly discourage any outdoor burning during the warning period, including debris burning, campfires, or other activities that could spark a fire. Residents are urged to use caution with any equipment or actions that may generate heat or sparks.
Public safety officials emphasize that even small fires can quickly become uncontrollable under Red Flag conditions and are asking the public to remain vigilant until the warning expires this evening.
