The Calhoun City Council has officially appointed Mike Schutz as the new Chief of the Calhoun Fire Department.
City Administrator Paul Worley said the Fire Chief Interview Committee unanimously recommended Schutz for the role, citing his “exceptional qualifications, depth of experience, and demonstrated leadership capabilities.”
Schutz brings nearly 30 years of fire service experience, most recently serving as Deputy Chief with the Cobb County Fire Department. In that role, he oversaw field operations spanning 29 stations and hundreds of personnel. His career includes extensive experience in training, emergency response, technical rescue, EMS, and incident command.
“Mike brings a proven record of operational excellence, strategic decision-making, and collaborative leadership,” Worley said. “His experience, character, and commitment to community service make him an excellent choice to lead the Calhoun Fire Department into its next chapter.”
A Gordon County resident, Schutz began his fire service career with Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services in February 1996. He advanced through the ranks as a Paramedic, Training Lieutenant, Training Captain, Training Chief, and Deputy Chief.
Schutz holds a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management and Leadership from Reinhardt University and an Associate Degree in Fire Science from Coosa Valley Technical College (now Georgia Northwestern Technical College). He has also earned the Georgia Fire Chief designation.
