Gordon County Emergency Management Agency officials are urging residents to remain weather aware as strong to severe storms are expected to move through the area late tonight into early Monday morning.
Public safety officials participated in a National Weather Service briefing regarding the approaching weather system, which is associated with a cold front expected to bring a line of thunderstorms through the region overnight. Storms could begin arriving after midnight and continue into the morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service, the storms may produce wind gusts exceeding 70 mph and could also bring the potential for tornadoes across parts of the region.
Following the storms, the system is expected to usher in significantly colder temperatures. The area is anticipated to be placed under a freeze warning, with overnight lows on Tuesday and Wednesday potentially dropping into the low 20s.
Officials encourage residents to monitor local weather updates and ensure NOAA weather radios have fresh batteries. Gordon County Public Safety will continue monitoring conditions throughout the night and provide updates as needed.
