Gordon County, GA – August 5, 2025 — The school bells are ringing once again in Gordon County as Calhoun City Schools officially kicked off the 2025–2026 academic year today, welcoming students, teachers, and staff back into classrooms across the district.
Parents lined up early at drop-off points across the city, and school staff were on hand to greet students with smiles and fresh supplies. “It’s always exciting to see the kids come back, full of energy and ready to learn,” said Calhoun Primary School Principal Karen Sutton.
Meanwhile, Gordon County Schools will begin their academic year this Friday, August 8. District officials say they’re finalizing preparations, from bus schedules to safety protocols, to ensure a smooth start for all students.
Both school systems have emphasized a strong focus on student safety, traffic flow around campuses, and family engagement. Calhoun Primary and Elementary Schools are operating under a new car rider line system this year, which separates drop-off areas for each school and adjusts start times slightly at the Primary School to help reduce congestion.
The Gordon County Board of Commissioners will meet tonight, August 5th, with a work session beginning at 5:00 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 6:00 p.m.
