Three members of the Calhoun City Schools Board of Education were officially sworn into office during Tuesday night’s Calhoun City Council meeting at the downtown Depot.
Mayor Jimmy Palmer administered the oath of office to board members Andy Baxter, Rhoda Washington, and Dr. Stephen King.
Superintendent Dr. Michele Taylor and Board Chair Becky Gilbert-George attended the meeting to show their support for the board members.
“We are blessed to have each of these individuals serving on our Board,” said Gilbert-George. “They are true servant leaders who work collaboratively to fulfill our mission of inspiring all students to become lifelong learners in the pursuit of excellence.”
Superintendent Taylor echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the importance of strong leadership and collaboration.
“I couldn’t ask for a better governance team to work with as we ensure our children receive the best educational opportunities possible,” Taylor said. “I am also grateful for the continued partnership and support of the Mayor and City Council.”
The next meeting of the Calhoun City Schools Board of Education is scheduled for Monday, January 26, 2026, at 6 p.m. at the Board of Education Office, located at 334 South Wall Street.
