Toyota is recalling more than 508,000 Camry Hybrid vehicles in the United States due to a software issue that could cause the instrument display to go blank during startup, preventing important safety indicators from functioning.
The recall affects 2025 and 2026 model year Toyota Camry Hybrids equipped with a 7-inch combination meter display. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the display can fail to illuminate when the vehicle is started, disabling visual indicators for turn signals, hazard lights, and other warning messages.
The malfunction may also prevent seat belt reminders and “key left in ignition” alerts from working properly. Federal safety officials say the issue increases the risk of a crash because drivers may not be able to see important vehicle warnings, and other motorists may not recognize when a driver intends to turn or signal a hazard.
Globally, approximately 655,000 vehicles are included in the recall. Toyota said the affected vehicles were built between December 2023 and July 2026 at manufacturing plants in the United States, Japan, and Thailand.
Toyota Motor North America will notify affected owners by mail beginning Sept. 21, with notifications expected to be completed by early October. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicles to an authorized Toyota dealership, where a software update will be performed at no cost.
