FATAL WRECK UPDATE Regarding Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-75 Near Calhoun

FATAL WRECK UPDATE:  According to Georgia State Patrol reports, a tractor-trailer traveling north on Interstate 75 near mile marker 308 collided with a Hyundai Sonata.  After the initial impact, the Sonata traveled off the right shoulder of I-75 NB and the tractor-trailer crossed the median into the SB lanes, causing collisions with two other tractor-trailers and two passenger vehicles. One of the passenger vehicles caught fire. A total of six vehicles were involved, with three fatalities; there were also two occupants that were transported to hospitals, and two occupants that were not injured.

The GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is conducting an ongoing investigation. At this time, it is unknown what caused the initial crash on the NB side that started the event.

Please continue to avoid I-75 South at this time while the GSP continues their investigation.

ORIGINAL POST:  Calhoun, GA – A devastating multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 75 Southbound near mile marker 308 claimed the lives of three people on Tuesday, May 13, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The crash, which occurred just before the Adairsville exit, involved multiple vehicles, including tractor-trailers. Authorities have shut down all southbound lanes in the area as emergency crews continue to work at the scene.

First responders arrived shortly after the collision, which was described as “major” and resulted in a significant fire. The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the incident via social media, urging drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

Details surrounding the cause of the crash and the condition of others involved are still being investigated.
