GCBC Meeting Highlights Parks Improvements and Property Tax Assessments
At Monday night’s Gordon County Board of Commissioners (GCBC) meeting, board members received two key updates—one on parks and recreation improvements, and the other on property tax assessments.
Craig Sparks, Director of Parks and Recreation, shared usage statistics for various programs and outlined both recent improvements and upcoming plans. One notable update is that the skate park at Sonoraville, which has been closed, will be replaced with new pickleball courts—an increasingly popular activity in the county. Sparks emphasized the department’s ongoing efforts to maintain and expand recreational opportunities for the community.
Ashley Bailey, Gordon County’s Tax Assessor, also addressed the board, providing context for the recently mailed property tax assessments. Bailey explained that for the past three years, Gordon County has appealed state valuation mandates to the Georgia State Audit Committee—and won each time. He assured residents that the county has been working diligently to keep property valuations accurate and fair.
Bailey also walked the board through the property tax appeal process for individuals. Property owners who wish to appeal their assessments may do so either in person or online.
Both presentations highlighted the county’s commitment to transparency, responsiveness, and long-term planning.
